In 2018 I was watching a charity drawing stream of two of my favourite artists, and they said something that I have not stopped thinking about since:

“Young artists should not at all think about style; if you try to force a style, you're going to cripple your ability to learn different parts of drawing and disciplines. Be influenced by tons of different artists, old artists, new artists, be influenced by life and your taste will eventually accumulate in something new that no one's ever seen before called "style."”

I was absolutely flabbergasted by this piece of advice, and ever since then, I focused my attention on filling my sketchbook with observational drawings, letting myself draw what I see instead of boxing myself into anything particular.
